Chest Exercise Equipment

Your chest muscles are composed of the pectoralis major and minor. Why Should You Work Your Chest? Your chest contains some of the largest muscle groups in the upper body. How Often Should You Train Your Chest? You can perform chest exercises up to 3 non-consecutive days a week.

When training to emphasize the chest, or more specifically the pectoralis major, the motion should allow the majority of the muscle fibers of the chest to be lined up against the resistance. This motion is known as horizontal adduction, or simply, bringing the arm across the body, such as in a dumbbell chest press. Since the resistance is held in the hand during most chest exercises, decide whether the elbow will be stabilized in one position (fly) or whether the elbow will move as the shoulder joint moves (press). Either way, the goal is to maintain the horizontal plane by aligning the elbow joint with the shoulder joint (not the top of the shoulder) while keeping the shoulders stabilized.
